The Importance of Keystone Species

In architecture, the keystone is the central stone
at the top of an arch, holding everything together.
In the 昀eld of natural sciences, we de昀ne keystone
species as organisms that hold ecosystems
together. Join the naturalists of Wildlife Prairie Park
as they present some of the keystone species of the
Midwest, including bison, grey wolves, groundhogs,
and more. The presentation will be followed by a
hayrack ride into the bison and elk pasture, and
昀nished with watching keepers feed the wolf pack
from the overlook. Donuts and Wildlife Prairie9s
signature Bison Blend coffee will be provided.

OLLI invites you to join the Peoria Chautauqua
Literary and Scienti昀c Circle, considered the
oldest continuous book club in the United
States. Lynette Steger professional educator,
content strategist, and Peoria Women9s Club
board member will moderate each meeting that
will focus on three of the Chautauqua Institute9s
annual book selections: My Side of the River,
Elizabeth Camarillo Gutierrez; The Queens of
Crime, Marie Benedict; The Sounds of Poetry: A
Brief Guide, Robert Pinsky.
