Essential Conversations:
Empowering Dementia Care Partners
If you know someone who is experiencing
changes in memory, thinking, and behavior, it can
be challenging but you don9t have to navigate it
alone. This class provides strategies and tools for
dif昀cult but important conversations about the
evolving needs and changes related to dementia.
We9ll explore how Alzheimer9s and other
dementias affect communication across different
stages and techniques to better communicate
with someone who is living with dementia. We9ll
also discuss the costs of caregiving, the bene昀ts of
early planning, and how to avoid 昀nancial abuse
and fraud. In addition, we will review caregiver
tips and strategies to respond to some common
behaviours exhibited by individuals living with
dementia, such as agitation and confusion.
$30 3 Class instructor is Sharon Mindock, retired
licensed clinical professional counselor, volunteer
educator for the Alzheimer9s Association.

昀rst responders we depend on in life-threatening
situations. Each week, learn from one of our guest
instructors3 Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria,
Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins, Peoria Fire
Chief Shawn Sollberger, and Josh Bradshaw,
Community Resource Manager at Advanced
Medical Transport3about how these agencies
operate, the 昀nancial resources required, the
challenges they face, the public safety role they
play, and how 昀rst responders from different
agencies interact. Discover the daily work these
individuals and their teams provide to keep our
community safe.
