The Brotherton Museum
Thursday, September 10

Discover one of Central Illinois’ hidden treasures
during a visit to the Brotherton Museum in
Pekin. Housed in the historic former Franklin
School building, this remarkable private museum
showcases an extensive collection of local and
national history, memorabilia, antiques, and unique
artifacts gathered over a lifetime of collecting. We’ll
explore exhibits highlighting Pekin’s rich heritage,
vintage toys and games, historic photographs,
transportation artifacts, military memorabilia,
and fascinating displays that capture everyday
life from generations past. Museum founder
Roger Brotherton’s passion for preserving history
is evident throughout the museum, where every
room offers new stories, surprising discoveries, and
a nostalgic journey through time.

Mother Road Route 66
Wednesday, September 16
8:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Cruise into nostalgia during a Historic Route 66 tour
to Springfield, filled with classic roadside charm
and Americana during the Mother Road’s 100th
anniversary year. Our day will begin at the Route
66 Experience, where immersive exhibits bring the
legendary highway to life, followed by a visit to the
Ace Sign Museum to explore its vibrant collection
of vintage signs and neon displays. We’ll enjoy
lunch at Route 66 Motorheads Bar & Grill, located in
the iconic former Stuckey’s building, and drive past
Bill Shea’s Filling Station and the legendary Cozy
Dog Drive In, known as the birthplace of the corn
dog on a stick. OLLI class instructor Paul Buck will
join us to share his knowledge of this iconic road,
creating a fun, fast-paced day of history, food, and
unforgettable Route 66 spirit.

Advanced Medical Transport
Tuesday, October 27
8:45 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Get an inside look at the people, technology, and
training behind emergency medical services
during a visit to Advanced Medical Transport (AMT).
This private, not-for-profit organization serves more
than 60 communities throughout Central Illinois.
On this trip, we’ll divide into smaller groups to
explore AMT’s operations and gain a closer look at
the state-of-the-art equipment used to dispatch
ambulances, step inside an ambulance, and visit
one of the area’s most advanced classrooms for
emergency medical training. We’ll also learn how
AMT’s nurses, paramedics, emergency medical
technicians, and dispatchers provide essential
services to fire protection districts, townships,
municipalities, counties, hospitals, skilled nursing
facilities, physicians’ offices, and public events.
$40 – includes guided tour, lunch, gratuities, and
shuttle transportation.

Peoria City Hall with Mayor Ali
Tuesday, September 22
8:45 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Discover the history, architecture, and civic
leadership of one of Peoria’s most iconic landmarks.
Peoria City Hall, once voted the most beautiful
city hall in America, is renowned for its stunning
art, architecture, and rich history. Guided by Stacy
Peterson, Strategic Communications Manager
for the City of Peoria, we will enjoy a private tour
of this Flemish Renaissance-style building while
learning about the vision, planning, politics, and
community leaders who helped bring it to life.
Highlights include the building’s Italian marble
wainscoting, copper cupola bell tower, ornamented
stepped gables, and dramatic open atrium rotunda
crowned by a stained-glass skylight. We’ll also
visit the City Council Chambers and enjoy a special
visit with Mayor Rita Ali and members of the City
of Peoria staff, who will provide additional insight
into local government and the work being done to
shape Peoria’s future.
