Women Painters - Challenges,
Triumphs, and Untold Stories
Tuesdays, October 20 – November 17
9:30 – 11:00 a.m.
Peoria Next Innovation Center
Da Vinci, Picasso, Van Gogh—we
can all name great male artists. But what about
the women? This group will explore the lives and
work of women painters throughout history who
overcame societal barriers to leave a lasting mark
on the art world. Together, we will examine the
challenges these artists faced, including limited
access to formal training, exhibition opportunities,
and recognition in male-dominated studios and
institutions. Following an introduction to major
art movements and historical gender barriers,
each participant will present the life and work of
a selected female artist. By blending art history,
social context, and inspiring personal stories, we
will bring these overlooked artists to light and
deepen our understanding of how gender, history,
and creativity shaped the visual arts.
$45 – Facilitated by Coke Mattingly, Art enthusiast,
fine art photographer, and frequent Art instructor.
