The Magic of Fuels and Oils
Such ubiquitous products! You can find
gasoline and diesel fuels at almost every corner
globally. They are a critical part of our daily life
and they propel economies everywhere. This
class will present the fuels’ chemical makeup,
availability, quality controls, and explore potential
alternatives to reduce the fuels’ impact on
the environment. Oils, the blood line of all
engines, machines, and moving components,
are a complex mix of chemicals, yet precise in
composition, effective, and continuously evolving.
We will debunk the mysteries of oils and how
they work. The presentation will also discuss
paths to reducing the environmental impact of
these petroleum products.
$30 – Class instructor is Hind Abi-Akar, she's been

Two Midterm Elections that
Your Choice
Drew the Nation to Peoria
IN PERSON
OR ONLINE
As voters prepare for the November
midterm elections, we'll revisit two
campaigns that thrust Peoria into the national
spotlight. In both races, prominent leaders of the
incumbent president's party found themselves in
the political crosshairs: Everett Dirksen's successful
1950 challenge to Senate Majority Leader Scott
Lucas of nearby Havana, and young attorney Doug
Stephens' 1982 campaign against House Minority
Leader Bob Michel during the economic malaise
of the early Reagan years.
$30 – Class instructor is Chris Kaergard, historian
for the Dirksen Congressional Center and frequent
OLLI instructor.
