CREW309: Rowing on the River
Tuesday, September 15
2:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Learn how exercise, teamwork,
and perseverance come together
during a visit with CREW309, an
independent nonprofit organization
dedicated to reducing the
recurrence of cancer through exercise. CREW309
members include breast cancer survivors and
“previvors” who gain mutual support through
rowing and fitness training. One of the
organization’s founders, Lindsay Vlaminck, will
share the history and mission of the group, which
began in 2017. We’ll visit the Water Street indoor
practice facility to learn about the year-round
training program and have an opportunity to try
the rowing machines, known as ergs. Afterward,
we’ll travel to East Port Marina for refreshments on
the Storm Shelter patio while watching the crew
prepare their boat and participate in an on-water
practice on the Illinois River just before sunset.
$45 – includes guided presentation, refreshments,
gratuities, and shuttle transportation.
