9. A Social History of Tattooing:
Class, Crime, and Contemporary Culture

Have you noticed that people tend to be more
permissive of body modi昀cations, like tattoos, than
in the past? Perhaps you9ve wondered about the
people who carve out a living engaging in this kind
of body work. Using visual imagery and elaborate
stories this talk will explore the history of tattooing
in the western world, with speci昀c emphasis on
the United States. Dr. David Lane, an assistant
professor in the Department of Criminal Justice
Sciences at Illinois State University, will illustrate
the common misconceptions about social class,
crime, and tattooing, while also depicting the
historical contributions toward and complexity of
contemporary tattoo work.

10. OLLI at the Movies: Moneyball

Moneyball is a 2011 American sports drama 昀lm
featuring Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour
Hoffman, and Chris Pratt. Based on the 2003
non昀ction book by Michael Lewis, the 昀lm centers
on the 2002 season of the Oakland Athletics
baseball team. To build a competitive team, the
general manager de昀es traditional scouting
methods and uses statistical data to identify
undervalued players. Moneyball is an inspiring
story about rede昀ning success in a sport that
values tradition.

The OLLI Mix & Mingle is a great way to meet new
people in a casual environment.
Participants will purchase their own drinks
and snacks. Each event will be hosted by OLLI
volunteers and a Bradley staffer. We have reserved
a few tables at area restaurants so we can mix and
mingle, OLLI style. Registration is required, but if
you9d like to bring a friend who is new to OLLI just
call the of昀ce and let us know so we can add them
to the count.

in England and France, OLLI members visited
the Longues-sur-Mer battery, located on a cliff
overlooking the Baie de Seine in Normandy
between the Allied landing sectors of Omaha
Beach and Gold Beach.
