Study Groups offer an opportunity to investigate
topics in depth. Most study groups typically meet
once a week for four to eight weeks.
Please note the abbreviations at the end of the
description:
RF= returning facilitator RG = repeat group

an active email account and internet access is
necessary.
Beginning Bridge II – Declarer Play
Thursdays, January 8 – February 26

Improve your bridge playing
skills with others who are eager
to play. In this 8-session workshop,
we will focus on “declarer play.”
Participants should be familiar with basic bidding
and rules of the game of bridge. You will learn
keys to declarer play, including counting winners
and losers, creating extra winners through long
suits, promotion of lower ranking cards, 昀椀nessing
and ruf昀椀ng. We will also review some bidding
techniques. These sessions (as in the workshop
on bidding) will be interactive and participants will
have the opportunity to put their newly-learned
skills into action by playing pre-dealt hands that
illustrate the skills during the sessions. A text
entitled Play of the Hand in the 21st Century will be
given to each participant without further charge.
$45 – Facilitated by Chuck Young, American
Contract Bridge League certi昀椀ed teacher, and
Michael Bohn, Bridge enthusiast and talented
player.

Super Agers:
An Evidence-Based Approach to Longevity

the groundbreaking new book by physician Eric
Topol. Drawing on meticulous research and an
extensive bibliography, Dr. Topol unpacks the
science behind healthy aging, the surprising factors
that in昀氀uence longevity, and the emerging role
of AI in extending our years of vitality. Accessible,
engaging, and full of practical insights, our
discussions around this book will focus on a path
forward for anyone interested in living not just
longer, but better.

Professor at Methodist College in Peoria where she
has taught psychology, gerontology, and public
health courses for 15 years.

in this year’s Peoria Reads theme. Together, we’ll
explore 昀椀ve novels where music plays a central
role, adding depth, rhythm, and meaning to each
narrative. Meeting every other week, this study
group offers readers time to enjoy each book and
come ready for lively, facilitated discussions. Join
us to celebrate how words and music intertwine
to inspire, connect, and move us. Peoria Reads
is a one city/one book initiative begun in 2002.
