Family Estrangement: Is Healing Possible?
January 7 – Is healing estranged relationships
possible? Learn what estrangement is and the
pathways to estrangement. Estrangement can
come from divorce, mental health issues of the
adult child, addictions, disagreements about
choices, values or political leanings.
January 14 – Understand how to best support
people who identify as LGBTQ+. We will discuss the
importance of connecting and caring for LGBTQ+
individuals, with attention to how generational
perspectives on acceptance have shifted over time.
We’ll learn key concepts such as gender identity
and sexual orientation, and current research on
the natural diversity of human experience. We will
also consider the challenges that can arise within
families, including the potential for estrangement
when a loved one comes out.
January 21 – We’ll discuss how to heal
estrangement, and explore coping strategies.

Prelude to War (1770–1774): Understanding the
Road to American Independence
The Revolutionary War didn't begin overnight.
It was the result of years of growing tension
between the American colonies and the British
government. In this class, we'll explore the key
causes that led to the outbreak of war in 1775.
Britain's attempts to exert control over the
colonies through taxes and trade restrictions, the
colonists' demand for representation, and the
powerful ideas of liberty and self-government
that inspired rebellion will be discussed. From
the Stamp Act and the Boston Tea Party to the
昀椀rst shots 昀椀red at Lexington and Concord, you'll
gain a deeper understanding of the political,
economic, and ideological forces that sparked a
revolution and reshaped history. Ideal for anyone
interested in America's founding and the roots of
democratic thought.

Introduction to Computer Security
This will be a basic, introductory class on computer
security covering topics including: avoiding scams,
social media suggestions, learning to create
strong passwords, and “to click or not to click”
(recommendation for most situations: don’t click).
If you have been afraid to turn on your computer
or look at your smart phone, please consider
attending this class to gain the con昀椀dence to
engage with the internet world outside your home.
