Only Hope: My Mother and
the Holocaust Brought to Light
Monday, February 1
1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Before her death in 1974, Felicia Bornstein Lubliner
wrote about her experiences in ghettos and
concentration camps in Nazi-occupied Poland.
Her son, Irv, professor emeritus at Southern
Oregon University, later published her stories as
Only Hope: A Survivor’s Stories of the Holocaust.
In this deeply personal presentation, he shares
excerpts from her writings, letting participants
encounter the Holocaust through the words,
emotions, and memories of a survivor. He’ll
also reflect on growing up as the child of two
Auschwitz survivors and the lasting impact their
experiences had on his life. For those interested in
history, personal stories, and how the past shapes
the present, this presentation offers an intimate
look at both the devastating cost of persecution
and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

The Rosenwald Legacy:
An Update on the Campaign for a
National Park
Thursday, February 11
1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Julius Rosenwald, the Sears, Roebuck and Co.
executive and pioneering philanthropist, helped
establish nearly 5,000 schools that expanded
educational opportunities for African American
children throughout the Jim Crow South.
OLLI previously hosted Dorothy Canter, Ph.D.,
President of the Rosenwald Park Campaign,
who shared Rosenwald’s remarkable story and
the effort to create a National Park honoring his
legacy. Now, she returns to update us on the
campaign’s progress and next steps, including the
launch of a free interactive map and database on
Rosenwald Schools that still exist.
