How to Think Like a Roman Emperor
Explore the life and philosophy of Marcus
Aurelius, one of Rome’s most influential
emperors and Stoic thinkers. Modeled on
Donald Robertson’s How to Think Like a Roman
Emperor: The Stoic Philosophy of Marcus
Aurelius, this course will examine how Marcus
Aurelius approached adversity, resilience, and the
pursuit of tranquility. The book is not required
reading. Along the way, we’ll consider how Stoic
ideas drawn from his life and Meditations can still
offer practical insight today.
$20 – Class instructor is Pastor Bill Dohle, a

also explore digital color models such as RGB
and HSB, color cubes and color squares, and the

Monsters in Film & Literature
Explore what monsters reveal about the cultures
that create them. We’ll examine the role monsters
play in literature, fairy tales, and film, and consider
how they reflect changing fears, values, and social
anxieties. Along the way, we’ll look at classic
monster films from the 1930s through the 1970s
and compare them with contemporary portrayals
to see how both our fears (and the monsters that
embody them) have evolved over time.
$20 – Class instructor is Dr. Colleen Karn, Professor
of English & Humanities at Methodist College in
Peoria. The focus of most of her scholarly work is
Monster Studies.
Exclusive access gives OLLI members a new perspective on a
recent visit to the Illinois State University Crime Lab.
